Accelerating research with Cell culture platforms, model for In vitro drug screening

It is crucial to promote drug innovation on an ongoing basis as healthcare is highly dependent on drug research and development. A drug’s entire spectrum of influences and effects cannot be predicted accurately due to the highly dynamic, multilevel, and complex biological system of the human body. Due to its social impact, the paradigm for drug discovery must be constantly updated. Estimates suggest that the process is both time-consuming and money-consuming, often taking more than 12 years or longer from target identification until approval by the market.

Despite the advancements in the field, cell culture techniques are essential for drug discovery in pharmaceutical research. The development and characterization of nanomedicines involves the use of cell culture techniques to discover drug efficacy, delivery, pharmacological actions, and cytotoxicity. Cell cultures have been utilized for more than a century to comprehend cell behavior and its mechanisms in the body. Data-harvesting quantitative and physiologically relevant information in drug-screening processes can be completed by using cell-based assays, which are one of the most comprehensive approaches.

The present webinar explores the pros and cons of using 2D and 3D cell cultures in drug screening, and discusses their respective advantages and disadvantages.

Dr. Lipi Singh is the Vice President of Advancells Group in India. Dr Singh has over 18 years of expertise in the field of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine, accomplished her postdoctoral research in Stem Cell Biology in 2011 at the City of Hope National Medical Centre & Beckman Research Centre, California, USA. She received an esteemed postdoctoral fellowship from the “California Institute of Regenerative Medicine, USA” for her work on pancreatic stem cells for replacement therapy of Type I Diabetes. She is also an active member (Clinical Fellow) of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine in Florida, USA. She received her PhD in Pancreatology from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh, India.

She has extensive experience in stem cell therapy, as well as product development and technology. The company successfully identified and purified hematopoietic and non-hematopoietic stem cells from a variety of sources, and banked them for future therapeutic purposes, under her leadership. She has a broad background in GMP-based cell production, as well as Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs in stem cell therapeutics and clinical studies. Her contributions in stem cell processing, banking, research, and therapies have garnered her national and international acclaim.

Presently, she is working with Advancells Group, India, to create a frontier of wellbeing through regenerative medicine, which is a pivotal necessity for health care worldwide. This encompasses overall health and endurance, as well as raising global awareness of “A new era of wellbeing through Regenerative Medicine”.
