These are the adult stem cells that are commonly found in tissue sources like bone marrow, peripheral blood and cord blood. The cells exhibit unique multilineage transdifferentiation potential and remarkable self-renewal potential. The cells are highly recognized for their resistance to stress without forming tumors; due to which they are used in multiple disciplines of regenerative medicine.At Kosheeka, we have standardized the isolation technique of MUSE cells using a cocktail of cytokines and growth factors. With appropriate culture conditions, these cells are allowed to adhere to the plastic surface of the coated flask and form colony-like structures. The cells are characterized by several distinct markers including CD105, SSEA-3, etc. One has to be very careful during culturing these cells, due to their spontaneous differentiation capacity into cells of other tissues.

Cells have demonstrated expansion potential in the culture, allowing researchers to study the desired population of cells under controlled conditions. However, studies have shown that the expansion potential of MUSE cells can vary depending upon the culture conditions, individual characteristics and specific methods of isolation.

MUSE cells are characterized by significantly unique properties in comparison to other stem cells, including even embryonic stem cells. They essentially exhibit non-tumorigenicity, stress tolerance, and high homing capacity to the site of injury. Technically, MUSE cells can survive up to 16 hrs of incubation with TRYPLE, which is not possible in case of other stem cells.
